PCBS collaborates with a variety of organizations in the Kansas City area in effort to ensure people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities at all stages of life have access to variety of services and support. For the first time in our history, PCBS has approved more than $1,000,000 in funding to support our Community Partners in 2024. The service descriptions below show only a small fraction of services provided by these agencies. In 1947 two local organizations, Children’s Therapeutic Learning Center and Rehabilitation Institute of Kansas City, opened their doors to serve children and adults with disabilities. Seventy years later those organizations came together as one, Ability KC. Our mission is to build brighter futures for children and adults with disabilities by providing comprehensive educational, vocational and therapeutic services.
Adult Continuing Education for Person with Developmental Disabilities(ACED)

Adult Continuing Education for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (ACED) offers adults the opportunity to attend non-credit classes in an educational and social environment. The ACED program is designed to teach independent living skills and provide life-enhancing experiences. ACED is offered by the UMKC Institute for Human Development, a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, Northwest Missouri University with funding from Developmental Disability Services from Clay and Platte County. Jackson County locations are funded by EITAS.
Children’s Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI)

CCVI exists to serve children who are blind and visually impaired, their families, and the community. CCVI’s comprehensive program model provides specialized education and therapy services designed to help children and families in Missouri and Kansas succeed by meeting their individual needs.

Easterseals Midwest provides exceptional services, education, outreach, and advocacy so that people with disabilities can live, learn, work, and play in our communities. From autism parent training workshops to job training, Easterseals offers autism resources, community living support, employment training, and early childhood services to change the way the world defines and views disability.

The Farmer’s House provides junior high and high school students early work experience and the opportunity to explore and engage in hands-on experiences in a variety of vocations which include our retail markets, gardens, commercial kitchens, and property maintenance. The goal of the vocational experience is to increase the likelihood of obtaining competitive employment.

Hulme Resources Inc. provides a unique and creative set of person centered services and supports that are available through a Medicaid Waiver, or other state and local funding streams. Some of the more specialized services we provide are IEP coaching, Transition Planning, Health and Nutrition Coaching, Safety Awareness Coaching, Benefits Planning, Alternatives to Guardianship Consultation, Connection to Communities, and Support Broker for Self Directed services. We do all of this by educating, empowering, and ensuring a barrier-free path to a great quality of life!
