Transitioning into Adulthood

I’m by no means an expert — I’ve only been “adulting” for about six months. But these past
months have been some of the most exciting and challenging of my life.

In college, you’re surrounded by resources and support systems. Once you graduate, the
expectation is that you’ll just figure it all out on your own. I quickly realized I had little knowledge
of things like accessible transportation, Medicaid, therapies, independent living tools, and so
much more. On top of that, I was adjusting to a new city, moving in with my significant other, and
only knowing a handful of people. It was overwhelming. Honestly, it still is sometimes.

But over time, I’ve learned two very important things:

  1. There are resources out there, you just have to dig for them and decide what works best for you.
  2. You don’t have to have everything figured out at once.
I’m still figuring things out as I go. I definitely don’t have it all together, but things feel more manageable now than they did at the start. What are some resources and support systems you have as an individual with a disability?
